Since time immemorial, we have continually extolled the gift of motherhood but no phrase can completely summarize our message of gratitude for the ladies who delivered us to the world. A Superior Being willed females to bear offsprings in her womb for nine arduous months, a trait granted exclusively to women. A mother’s femininity allowed her to diligently look after a defenseless human being, incapable of survival, until the baby grew into adulthood.
Her loving face is the image we keep forever etched in our hearts. Her gentle eyes twinkle like stars in the night. Her smile welcomes us to this world. Her voice lends drama to the timeless fairytales and witty fables every time we prepare for bed. Her mellow laughter springs from genuine happiness brought about by her precious jewels, her children. Her milk nourished us and purveyed bonds until we stood on our own feet.
Her shoulder is always ready to receive a crying adolescent. Her protective arms cradled sons and daughters both who later turned out to be great and noble men. Her patient ways reared us to be civic-minded individuals. Her soft hands held our little fingers tenderly when we could no longer see the end of the road. Her lap became our quiet refuge whenever we witness the harsh realities in life and needed love. Her warm embraces made us feel security, stability and love. She nursed our wounds and kissed the booboos away. She continues to trust in our judgment and invigorates our psyches.
Her legs strove to tread the path ahead of us so she may lead the way. Her body is a pillar of strength from which we draw support. She was the embodiment of a strong woman—soft and fragile in the outside but inside, she struggled with things beyond her control, emotions that distressed her. Her shapely contours belie a zealous spirit, ready to face battle, if needed, for her baby.
She was a woman who bore trials the best she could. Her beauty shone in the deep recesses of her heart, the sanctuary that kept a hundred regrets, thousands of sufferings and a million hurts. Perhaps, numbers could not even measure the pain she felt in her lifetime but one thing is plain to see: a mother’s love is unconditional.
Indeed, mothers are unique. Further proof of that is the fact that the term mother has no other synonym in the thesaurus. It’s about time we paid tribute to the women who gave much affection, who gave their all to raise more than half of the world’s population today. It’s about time we proclaimed our heartfelt thanks for without them, we will never reach zeniths where we soar. I leave you with a hit song by Keith Martin that will signify our profound love and respect for them:
“Because of you, my life has changed.
Thank you for the love and the joy you bring.
Because of you, I feel no shame
I’ll tell the world it’s because of you…”
